Overview

SDI Global Consult supported REMA and UNDP in drafting Rwanda’s National Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Valorization Strategy under the Nagoya Protocol. The assignment combined legal and institutional analysis, market and value-chain assessments, and socio-economic valuation to identify priority genetic resources and sectors with high valorization potential, while integrating gender considerations and stakeholder validation.

  • National ABS Valorization Strategy finalized and validated, aligned with Rwanda’s ABS legal framework and development priorities
  • Identification and analysis of priority ABS-compliant value chains across key sectors (pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agri-food, biotechnology)
  • Quantitative estimates of socio-economic value and benefit-sharing potential for selected genetic resources
  • Strategic recommendations for institutional arrangements, private-sector engagement, research partnerships, and knowledge management
