Overview

SDI Global Consult supported the Government of Morocco and UNDP under the APA Nagoya II project to strengthen national capacities for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol. The assignment combined international benchmarking, a nationwide assessment of institutional capacity needs, the design of a structured national capacity-building plan, and the delivery of hands-on training for key public institutions involved in Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS), including genetic resources, digital sequence information, and associated traditional knowledge.

  • International benchmarking of ABS and Nagoya Protocol implementation models, identifying best practices applicable to Morocco
  • National assessment of institutional and technical capacity gaps across key public agencies and stakeholders
  • Development of a structured national capacity-building plan with clear strategic axes, actions, and responsibilities
  • Delivery of targeted training workshops on ABS fundamentals, legal mechanisms (PIC, MAT, IRCC), and implementation challenges
  • Consolidated operational roadmap to support effective, coordinated implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in Morocco
