Overview

The decision to participate in COP22 and the choice of this international event in particular are based on several reasons. First of all, the 22nd Conference of the Parties on climate change wanted to be one of "action". SDI Global Consult Managing Partner Ali Benryane was the co-founder of CAP Développement Durable, a Canada-based NGO aiming to engage young professionals in sustianable development and climate change action.

Indeed, this COP22 represented a very important milestone after the unanimous adoption of the first universal climate agreement at COP21: the Paris Agreement. The latter commits the signatory States to contribute to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and to review their commitments every 5 years, in particular those relating to adaptation, transparency, technology transfer, strengthening of capabilities and loss and damage. By choosing to participate in such an event, CAP DD also wanted above all to highlight the position of young professionals in the fight against climate change.

The objective of the CAPCOP initiative (22 and 23) is to show that young professionals also have their place in a high-level decision-making context, and above all that they can play a very important role in the transition from their companies to a more low-carbon economy. Young professionals are the leaders of tomorrow and therefore, to actively facilitate their training and awareness by making them take part in international negotiations on the challenges of climate change and their solutions is an approach as appreciable in the short term as in the long term.
